emerald park (formerly tayto park)

The iconic Tayto brand of Irish potato crips is so famous, it has its own theme park with Ireland’s only roller coaster. It’s just 15 minutes by car from Connell’s House & Barn to Tayto Park!

It’s a great day out for all the family, visit the animals in the zoo and enjoy the out door pursuits and fun fair rides. Don’t forget your free packet of Tayto crisps on the way out!

Newgrange Farm

One of Ireland’s first open farms, where the kids can touch and feed the various animals, play in the giant sand pit and jump around on straw bales!

They can also go on a tractor trailer ride through the farm down to the banks of the Boyne River.

Funtasia

Lots of family fun here and it’s all indoors, so perfect for a rainy day.

Enjoy Pirates Cove Waterpark, bowling, climbing walls, roller skating, arcade amusements and a soft play area for toddlers.

Newbridge House & Farm

A beautiful country house and park close to the beaches of Donabate and Portrane. Take a tour of this historic house and farm, where the kids can see chicks hatch and pet the animals.

There is a super play park and looped walks around the grounds. Enjoy the nearby coastal walk from Portrane to Donabate and stop off at Scrumdiddly’s for an ice cream! 

Boyne Greenway & Cycleway

A beautiful pedestrian and cycle way that follows the contours of the Boyne River, from Drogheda all the way to the Battle of the Boyne at Oldbridge.

Cycling along the country roads of the Boyne Valley is a great way explore Newgrange (Brú na Boinne), Knowth and Dowth.

Bike hire is available from Quay Cycles in Drogheda from 1st March – 1st October each year.

Boyne River Activities

If you fancy a little thrill seeking take a white water rafting trip down the Boyne River at Slane or if you prefer something a little more relaxing, then why not paddle a kayak along the Boyne Blueway between Trim and Bective Mill, perfect for families and beginners.

malahide castle & gardens

This is a beautiful castle located in a Parkland setting on the edge of Malahide Village. Castle and Garden tours are available, free parking and a super playground for the kids!

There is an Avoca Cafe & Shop in the Castle Courtyard and it’s definitely worth a visit for breakfast or lunch. They have some beautiful Irish products in the shop too!

ardgillan castle & gardens

This is a beautiful large country-styled house with castellated embellishments. There is a sweeping driveway down to the house and walled garden with spectacular sea views towards Skerries.

Castle tours are available and there is a coffee shop for lunch and afternoon tea.

The Victorian Glass Houses in the walled garden are stunning. Entry to the gardens and park land is free and there is a super playground for the kids too!

BOYNE BOATS

We just love taking a trip on the Boyne Canal in a traditional Irish Currach, hand built by Ross Kenny, who also supplied his boats to the production company for Game of Thrones! 

Ross will entertain you with wonderful stories about this mystical valley whilst you gentle paddle along the Boyne canal to Old Bridge.
